The Capitol

Scaffolding currently surrounds the dome of the Capitol as renovations take place.
We had arranged a tour through our Florida Representative's office and enjoyed skipping the long entrance line at the Visitor Center and getting a private tour through the building.

The plaster model of the Statue of Freedom on the top of the Capitol.
The white star on the ground is a compass marking the center of Washington D.C. and is in the Crypt that was built beneath the Capitol dome for George Washington.  He was buried at Mount Vernon, but this is the spot that every modern President elect stands to begin his walk to the Capitol steps to his inauguration.

The Apotheosis of Washington on the interior of the dome, because of renovations this was all we were able to see of the ceiling.

National Statuary Hall (each state has 2 statues in the Capitol),

where the House of Representatives met 1807-1857
Adams desk location is the famous "whisper spot", we stood here while our tour guide stood across the room and whispered to us!
