Mildred Pearl Werneke

My Grandma (the children call her Granny), passed away January 28, 2014 at her home.
She was 89 years old and had lived an abundant life.
She loved God and loved her family,
and she set that example and gave that legacy to me and to our family.
She was a wife, a mom and a homemaker, a school teacher (she taught my dad 3rd and 4th grade), and active in her church and her community.

meeting me!
Hadassah's middle name is Pearl, after Grandma
Asher and I went to Missouri for Grandma's funeral.
It was his first time flying and he did great!  Our flights were delayed, cancelled, and rerouted but we arrived safely and Asher slept most of the flights.

Germany

We "traveled" to Germany for two weeks
with Corban's Exploring Countries and Cultures curriculum.

For our German meal, we made potato pancakes,
had sauerkraut (Daddy made) with knockwurst, and apple strudel.

In Bible/character traits, we read about Martin Luther and John Wesley
For science, Corban studied bodies of fresh water (rivers, lakes, streams and ponds)

The art suggestion was making beeswax figures, we improvised and the children had fun with play dough

January Dates

Corban and Mommy
book store date
Corban and I went to Barnes and Noble.  We roamed the store together looking at games and toys and gathering books.  Then we settled into a quiet corner to look at books next to one another.
I love that Corban LOVES to read!
It was not long ago that he had no interest and now he will read an entire chapter book in one setting.  He chose a Lego Chima book as his book to bring home.

Abigail and Daddy
ice skating date

Abigail had such a great time on her roller-skating date last year and was looking forward to trying ice skating for the first time (so much so that she was drawing Daddy pictures and reminding him almost daily that they needed to go on their date!)
They had lots of fun on the ice!

Hadassah and Daddy plant date

Hadassah was SO excited to get to pick her date from the jar and kept talking about her "growing date with Daddy."
They gathered several different seed packets and started the seeds in dixie cups.
