For the last several months we have talked a lot about what would be best for Caleb, how we could better take care of him, considering all different options. We do take good care of him but also recognize that we aren't able to offer him the time and attention that we want (and know he craves) and that is just going to be more difficult with another baby.
Last week, I sent an email to the couple that own the female (
Xena) that Caleb bred with around the time that we got married, to see what their thoughts were on "adopting" Caleb. It was a very difficult email to write....but what was encouraging was their enthusiastic response. They have 2 great danes no
w, both females, Xena and Makeda who is one of the puppies (well, she's full grown now) from that litter (so Caleb and Xena's daughter).
Today we brought Caleb over to their house for a trial time of a few weeks to see how everything works out for everyone. There have been a lot of tears today and it's a really hard decision for us, but we want to do what would truly be best for Caleb and for our family.
