Like a Ninja

Last Friday morning, I took the children to the park. Corban loves to climb the monkey bars. Abigail can't reach, so she gets on the platform and jumps off. She's done it before, its not high, and she did it several times that morning. Usually saying, "watch this, I'm like a ninja!" But then Abigail jumped and fell on her right arm. She cried a little, complained it hurt and we left soon after.
Funny side story, we went to the grocery store after the park and the kind man that bagged our groceries is missing his right hand. Abigail said to me (loudly, in front of him), "I've never seen a hand like that." He was nice and explained to her that it's because he doesn't have a hand, because you always need to listen to your Mommy, one time he didn't and he got hurt and lost his hand (actually at 27 to a chainsaw). But he didn't know that she'd hurt her arm and was very closely listening to his story and trying to process it. This came up several times later in the day, when we had to assure her that she was not going to lose her arm!
That afternoon, Chris came home early to take Abigail to an urgent care center for x-rays. They put her in a splint, covered her (and Daddy!) in stickers for doing such a great job, and recommended going to an orthopedist on Monday.
Abigail has done well with the splint (but doesn't like wearing the sling) and has figured out how to do about anything she wants with it on. I took her to the doctor this morning (a family friend who offered to see her first thing Monday), and while there is no visible fracture in the x-ray's, because of her age it can be hard to detect (lots of cartilage and 3 growth plates in that area). She does have swelling, bruising, and some discomfort, so he had a new splint (removable for bathing) made for her to wear for the next two weeks.

Wish Come True

Friday was Abigail's 3rd Birthday!
Abigail loves to help in the kitchen (emptying the dishwasher, setting the table, cooking, and baking), so she was eager to help make pancakes for her birthday breakfast!
I stood back to get a picture and Abigail poured the entire bottle of sprinkles into the batter!

as we sat down, Abigail said, "Ok, now we sing happy birthday to me" and started singing!
We went to Playtown Cafe for the afternoon!
Some friends met us there and we had a great day of playing (the children), talking (the Mommy's) and celebrating the birthday girl!

gifts and ice cream!

That evening, we had a family party at home!

Abigail reminded us that her cake needed candles, "so I can make a wish and you can sing again to me." When we finished singing, she said, "I wish for cake!" and blew out her 3 candles!

Corban gave Abigail "princess lipstick" (lipgloss)...which she later reapplied between bites of cake!

Corban decorated his piece of cake with dinosaurs
