Most Friday evenings, we host a community group/bible study.  

While the older children play together in the playroom these two littlest stay with the adults and get to play together. 

India

In Corban's ECC curriculum, his next country to study was India.

Science 

focus was mountains 

and Bible /character traits was missionaries Adoniram & Ann Judson and Amy Carmichael

During the first week we went out to dinner at a vegetarian South Indian restaurant.  We ordered the children's favorites (sweet mango lassi and puffy batura bread), but also got a big sampler to try some new entrees.  The girls always like the food here, but even Corban (our "hamburger guy") enjoyed sampling everything and told the owner that he has been studying India.  Corban and Abigail also thought it was great to get to watch some Bollywood dancing on the television while we waited for the food!

 

The children listened to Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book on CD (but first built a tent to sit in while they listened).  Hadassah fell asleep and I had Corban and Abigail draw a scene from the book after listening. 
The next night they watched Disney's cartoon version and we talked about the differences between the stories.

Week 2 we made an Indian meal at home.   Corban helped pick out recipes (we used some from the cooking class Chris and I took) and ingredients.  He didn't want to help with much of the actual making but liked reading the steps and doing the math to 1/2 a couple recipes.  We made a chicken dish, mango chutney,  pineapple-onion chutney, ragda, mango lassi and chai tea.  

Corban has started iMacs, a math through logic, critical thinking and creative reasoning program.  He goes once a week for two classes and is really enjoying the 

fun games and logic puzzles.

Four Months

Kenya

In February, we spent 3 weeks studying Kenya and the continent of Africa.  Corban's science focus was on  grasslands/savannas.

We looked at many books on African animals, 
watched Duma, Lion King, Madagascar and African Cats, 
and included some art/handwriting from our 
Draw Write Now book.

Abigail's animals

played mancala (table size at the museum and our smaller game at home) and African drums

our African meal included 

tapioca pudding with pineapple 

and irio  (mashed potatoes and peas with corn)
